Laytonsville Turf Farm in Gaithersburg | #MemberSpotlight
Did you know Maryland is nationally known for its Grade A sod?
Doug and Robin Lechlider, owners of Laytonsville Turf in Gaithersburg, are key players in our state’s thriving turf grass industry. Maryland sod is nationally renowned, consistently ranking among the top 15 states in sod production — an impressive feat given our relatively small size compared to other sod-producing states. These turf grasses are cultivated on nearly 12,000 acres across the state.
Laytonsville Turf specialize in cool season grasses, planting when most farmers are harvesting. This ensures fresh, high-quality sod ready for spring and summer planting. Their central location allows for fresh sod to be harvested in the morning and delivered to customers the same day, ready for immediate planting in the community.
“We can harvest at 6 AM and it can be on the ground in D.C. or Baltimore by 9 AM,” says Doug Lechlider. “That’s a blessing to be so close to our customer base.” #MemberSpotlight
